Some of us may be unwrapping newer, sleeker, faster technological wonders this holiday season. Today we can work, play or surf nearly everywhere we go. This creates both benefits and challenges for employers. If you have not done so, consider implementing a BYOD policy in your workplace. A sample policy is provided below.
Use of Personal Technology Policy and Waiver
BYOD (Bring Your Own Device)
(User’s name) would like to use personal technology devices (iPad, smart phone, tablet, etc.) in COMPANY NAME facilities.
Individuals are permitted to use personal technology devices provided they review and agree to the conditions below.
· User Responsibilities. The User is responsible for all activity related to, content stored, processed or transmitted on, the security of, and the use of, that Personal Device.
· No Expectation of Privacy. The User shall have no expectation of privacy when using or related to their use of Personal Devices, and shall have no expectation of privacy with respect to any information stored or process end on, created by or as a result of any use of, transmitted to or from, or accessible from, such Personal Devices.
· Assumption of Risk. The User assumes all risk associated with, arising out of, or directly or indirectly related to, the use of a Personal Device, including but not limited to the risk of damage.
· Release of Liability. COMPANY NAME is not responsible for any damage, loss, data costs, corruption or deletion of data or software, loss of use or liability associated with the use of a Personal Device.
· No technical support. COMPANY NAME does not guarantee connectivity or the quality of the connection with Personal Devices. COMPANY NAME is not responsible for maintaining or troubleshooting any Personal Devices.
· Prohibited Uses. Users may not use camera, video or recording capability anywhere in the building or on company property at any time unless authorized in advance by management.
· User discretion and judgment. Users are expected to exercise the same discretion in using their Personal Devices as is expected in any professional environment. Policies pertaining to harassment, discrimination, retaliation, confidential information and ethics apply to the use of Personal Devices while at COMPANY NAME
Use is a privilege. The usage of Personal Devices at COMPANY NAME is a privilege. Violations of the requirements above will result in loss of Personal Device privileges.
I understand and will abide by the above policy and guidelines. I further understand that any violation may result in the loss of my network and/or device privileges as well as other disciplinary action.
